A Parish Council or Local Council is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a name in this case ‘Hawkwell Parish Council’. We have a Chair and nine other Councillors representing two sub divisions of the parishes; these sub divisions are known as wards.
Hawkwell Parish Council is funded almost entirely from the precept or charges to the householders within the parish boundary. The precept is collected by Rochford District Council on behalf of the Parish as part of the Council Tax.
The Council meets monthly (except for August and December) and all meetings are open to the public.
THE AIM OR MISSION OF THE PARISH IS:
‘To develop and sustain a sense of community within the parish of Hawkwell by addressing environmental, economic and social issues and delivering quality services to our Parishioners’.
As the first level of local democracy the Parish is responsible to Parishioners for a variety of services including :
- street lighting (where the County Council has not provided a service)
- provision of bus shelters
- the management of parks and public open spaces such as Magnolia Nature Reserve, Spencers Park and Glencroft Open Space
- working in partnership with other Local Authorities and organisations.
